The Night Before

May 26th, 2010 · Pre-Trip, United Kingdom

So it’s the night before I leave and I am currently a mixed bag of feelings; partially excited, partially nervous about the trip itself (the phrase what the hell am I doing coming to mind), nervous about saying my goodbyes at the airport and also about the flight (hands up who else is petrified of flying but decides to make travelling a past-time). How To Keep In Touch On The Road: The Moo Way!

May 15th, 2010 · Pre-Trip, What I'm Taking

When you travel, friends come and go. You meet people absolutely everywhere; on the bus, train, plane, in bars, the queue for the atm and they become your best friend until you go your separate ways. The question is, how do you stay in touch? Facebook & Twitter are great tools for friends on the road but sometimes that napkin you scribbled your FB address on gets lost and so does the friendship. Rolling With The Punches

May 14th, 2010 · Pre-Trip

Whenever I mention my travel plans to anybody they always enthuse about how lucky I am and how they wish they were in my shoes. (I already have a queue of volunteers to take my ticket if I happen to die before I leave!)  Of course I am very excited about my upcoming trip and no, I wouldn’t give it up for the world but planning such a big trip like this isn’t without it’s pitfalls, namely the s word – stress. My Top Apps For Use On The Road

May 7th, 2010 · Planning, Pre-Trip, Sidebar Photoblog, What I'm Taking

Ever since iPods came out back in the early noughties I have been an addict, owning numerous clickwheels, a nano and a photo ipod, so it’s no surprise that I am now a devotee of the ipod touch. I would of course love an iphone but as I’m about to embark on a year long trip the last thing I want is to be paying humongous roaming charges! At first I wasn’tsure about taking the touch travelling; I mean you’re meant to be [Read more →]

The Big Bucks

May 3rd, 2010 · Finance, Planning, Pre-Trip, Sidebar Photoblog

During the planning of my trip, the most important and also most difficult part to figure out was/is the finance. One of the questions you get asked a lot is ‘How much is it going to cost?’ ‘How much does it cost to go round the world?’ Well ask yourself this one question – how long is a piece of string? Triumphs and Tribulations

May 3rd, 2010 · Planning, Pre-Trip, United Kingdom

So. I’m t- minus less than one month and counting. Am I feeling it yet? In a word, no. I get these weird bursts of sudden excitement when I feel a ray of sunshine hit my face and can see myself strolling down George St., Sydney or hear the roar of a jet plane over my head. But, most of the time, I appear to be living in a surreal, dreamlike land where I casually tell people that this time next month I’m going to be checking [Read more →]

50 Days and Counting

April 6th, 2010 · Planning, Pre-Trip, Sidebar Photoblog, United Kingdom

50 days. 7 weeks tomorrow. Just under 2 months. That is how long it is until I leave. Am I nervous? To be honest I’m not even sure how I feel. Everybody is telling me that I should be really excited, that I am leaving really soon and these last few weeks will just fly by but I haven’t really ‘felt’ it yet. I feel the same as I did when I first booked my tickets with a few little bouts of excitement thrown in, accompanied by nerves [Read more →]

I’m Insured (For £125!)

March 21st, 2010 · Planning, Pre-Trip, Sidebar Photoblog

My travel fund is now £77.50 lighter as I have my new passport! It was probably worth it just for the fact that I now longer have a passport photo that makes me look like a goth (not much point in having a passport when the people checking it won’t even believe it’s you in the picture!). Kudos to the passport agency for taking just one week to process it and get it back to me. [Read more →]
